Digital Project Manager
British Columbia, Canada
Ashley Kizlyk is a digital project manager with Foundation. Craving mountain views and ocean air, she moved from her home of Ontario to BC to study psychology at the University of British Columbia. Here, Ashley ventured into the cannabis industry, where she spent four years growing a dynamic, generalist skillset ranging from operations and human resources to business development and government relations before landing on her one true path: project management in the tech realm.
Ashley is a lover of books and planning software, two of the things that propel her commitment to excellence within the project management field. With a personal growth mentality and a values-driven mindset, Ashley develops partnerships and working dynamics representative of her deep respect for quality and meaningful contributions within diverse working environments. Here’s a brief taste of Ashley’s personality:
WHAT IS USUALLY PLAYING IN YOUR HEADPHONES?
Oh, everything! From ’50s and ’60s hits, rock and roll, and vibey lo-fi to 2000s hip hop, ’90s one-hitters, and folksy/indie bands—my music is as well-rounded as I continually strive to be.
If I’m cleaning my apartment, I’m definitely singing along to Whitney Houston and Otis Redding. If I’m cooking or on the SkyTrain, it’s Kendrick Lamar, Biggie or Top 40 hits. While I read in the morning, soft violin intermingles with a live YouTube lo-fi mix. I like to match my music to my energy at the moment.
WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I wanted to, and still intend to, be an author. Of course, I pictured it differently. I pictured a beautiful mahogany desk in front of a forest view, with an Underwood typewriter and endless time to write as I pleased, never running out of ideas.
However, it turns out that keeping writing personal and private while satisfying my need for a fast-paced, ever-challenging environment is the best happy medium.
WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING, WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
Exploring. Exploring my mind, my interests, new concepts, and interesting information. Exploring the Pacific Northwest, or another country, or a path in a forest. I can’t get enough of the feeling of stumbling upon something new and taking it in.
I chase this with mini-getaways to the Southern Gulf Islands or interior of BC, staying at some of the most unique, quaint and cozy AirBnB cabins. While there, I explore my creative side with painting, playing piano, guitar, or ukulele, and falling in love with a new set of characters in a piece of fiction.
WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT?
I have sporadic, incredible aim. I say sporadic because it’s far from consistent. Often when I’m trying the least hard, barely paying attention, I can toss a crumpled piece of paper, or really any ball-shaped item, into the garbage bin from across the room despite a surprising curve being required to get the angle of the shot just right.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES?
“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” —Audre Lorde
