Here’s a brief taste of Joe’s personality:
WHAT IS USUALLY PLAYING IN YOUR HEADPHONES?
When I’m writing copy, messaging, or strategy, I’m usually listening to soul, R&B, or one of those two or three hour-long YouTube “chillhop” compilations. When I’m out in the world, it’s usually a podcast interview with marketing leaders (you can’t get better if you don’t listen to the best) or a combo of mid-90s big fuzz rock, loud garage/punk bands, and soul music.
WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I definitely had a phase when I wanted to be a firefighter, but my biggest dream was to be an actor. I actually did a lot of acting in high school and even got a degree in it in college, but the career didn’t quite take.
WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING, WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
I am someone who thinks better when I’m moving, so I take a lot of walks and love being outdoors in nature, especially in the forest. From the time I was six months old to the time I was eight I lived on a small island in Hawaii, so being next to an ocean or body of water is also something that makes me happy.
WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT?
Oh wow, this is a question. I think it’s probably hard to explain out loud, but I really feel people’s feelings. I was homeschooled until high school, so when I got there, I’d missed a lot of social cues and had to get good at observing and translating. Thus, when people would say or do something, I intuitively gravitated to the feeling underneath even if I didn’t understand the other stuff. This has been helpful in a lot of ways, but I’ve also had to learn when to hit pause on it to take care of myself.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES?
“Create the art you want to see, start the business you want to run, play the music you want to hear, write the books you want to read, build the products you want to use – do the work you want to see done.” – Austin Kleon
