Shaq is the Talent and Recruitment Lead at Foundation. With a unique blend of digital marketing and talent acquisition experience, Shaq will play a key role in attracting more Foundationites across the world who continue to elevate our culture and deliver content excellence for Foundation.

Shaq is a man of many layers and interests, but at his core, he is a builder. Since his professional career began, he has spent time building new processes and strategies within digital-first marketing agencies and recruitment agencies. He has built a new basketball court in his hometown, and has founded a non-profit organization called The Futures Program, which is aimed toward student-athletes who need help preparing for new careers and life after sports.

Shaq is passionate about helping people navigate through their careers, and helping them find inspiration and personal and professional growth in their work motivates him.

Here’s a brief taste of Shaq’s personality:

WHAT IS USUALLY PLAYING IN YOUR HEADPHONES?

A little bit of everything when it comes to rap and R&B. My Dad played the drums in an R&B band when I was growing up, so all throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s, we listened to nothing but R&B in my family. R&B is great for a chill vibe, but when I need to ramp up energy throughout the day, that’s when I tap into my rap favourites. My playlist consists of mostly Drake, J Cole, Big Sean, Jay Z, Meek Mill, and The Game (in no particular order).

WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?

I played both basketball and baseball as a youth, and I wanted to play in the NBA or MLB. I never saw myself as anything other than a professional athlete. But as I got older, I realized that all I really wanted to be when I grew up was successful (whatever that meant to me at the time). Basketball and baseball were the only things I could identify with then.

Thankfully, my experiences have introduced me to the game of marketing, and of course helping people through recruitment. Because of marketing, I have discovered my hunger for success is driven by my passion for helping people. Whether my work is helping businesses and brands grow, or helping people be the best version of themselves, I now know I want to be successful by helping others.

WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING, WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?

When I am not working, I am absolutely happiest when I am spending time with my two daughters, Zaila and Kinsley. We spend most of our time hitting up playgrounds, coloring, at dance class, baseball practice, and swimming! My daughters always bring out the kid in me — that’s my life hack to living my happiest life.

WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT?

I get my hidden talent from Pops! I can play the drums! Growing up, I always practiced the drums with my dad, and later, I played in our band at school. But I quit in high school because I had to learn to read music. My dad and I learned by ear. Band also conflicted with basketball. Basketball won.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES?

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” ― Norman Vincent Peale
