What is usually playing in your headphones?

Portland’s best — Aminé and Esperanza Spalding — are always first for me.

Besides them, I listen to a lot of rap and reggaeton: Dano, Aesop Rock, C. Tangana, JID, Rosalía, Bad Bunny, and Little Simz are some favorites.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

For a long time, I wanted to be an archaeologist. It wasn’t just because of the Indiana Jones movies, either!

I fell in love with the idea of literally digging into the past ways that others used to live. I still have a persisting love of history.

What are you happiest doing, when you are not working?

Nothing makes me happier than a breath of fresh forest air. I think I’d die without regular exposure to nature, but I’ll never test that hypothesis. On any given weekend, I go for a hike. 

Whether it’s with a large group or by myself, I love walking through a beautiful landscape and sitting in the shade of tall trees.

What is your hidden talent?

I’m a great baker. I’m not incredible at decorating, though, so not everything I make turns out as pretty as I’d like, but it almost always tastes amazing.
