What is Engagement Rate?

Engagement Rate is a metric used in marketing to measure the level of interaction an audience has with content. It’s calculated by taking the total engagements (likes, shares, comments, etc.) and dividing it by the total number of followers or impressions, then multiplying by 100 to get a percentage.

  1. A SaaS company posts a video demo of their new feature on LinkedIn. The video receives 200 likes, 50 comments, and 30 shares. If the post reached 10,000 people, the engagement rate would be (200 + 50 + 30) / 10,000 x 100 = 2.8%.
  2. An email campaign sent to a list of 5,000 subscribers gets 500 clicks. The engagement rate for this campaign would be 500 / 5,000 x 100 = 10%.
