ChatGPT User Statistics
But the stats around ChatGPT’s users go beyond the total count. Here are some more detailed numbers on who’s using ChatGPT, how quickly it’s growing, and more. One key stat to keep in mind: ChatGPT recently hit new peaks for daily visits, spiking above 100,000,000 daily visits for the first time.
User Demographics
When you break it down by age, ChatGPT’s biggest user group is 25–34. That age group makes up 32% of the site’s visitors. Next is 18–24, clocking in at almost 27%, and then 35–44, who comprise 19% of the site’s visitors. Less than 4% of visitors are over the age of 65.
In terms of gender, men are a bit more likely to use ChatGPT. 54.5% of the site’s visitors are men, making men aged 25–34 the largest group of site visitors by age and gender. This group makes up 17.8% of ChatGPT’s users, according to Similarweb.
Surveys indicate diverse use cases for ChatGPT. Nature’s survey of readers reported that around 80% use ChatGPT for professional tasks such as drafting emails, creating reports, and generating marketing content.
Fishbowl’s survey in January 2023 highlighted that 30% of professionals had used ChatGPT. A year later, that number had jumped all the way to 62%.
Growth Trends Over Time
ChatGPT has experienced remarkable growth since its launch. Starting with a bang, it reached 1 million users just five days after its release in November 2022.

This rapid adoption continued, and by January 2023, ChatGPT had surpassed 100 million monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history at that time.
At the beginning of 2024, ChatGPT’s growth seemed to stabilize. According to Similarweb, from December 2023 to February 2024, it received a steady 1.6 billion visitors each month. That rose moderately to 1.8 billion in April 2024 but was followed by a sharp drop in visits in May 2024. The most recent statistics show May 2024’s visits dropping to only 637 million, a fraction of the last month’s.
It’s worth waiting to see whether that fall represents a blip or a lasting dropoff in use. Just a year before, the application saw a 10% drop in users as the school year ended and its novelty wore off, but the user count has more than recovered since then.
Regional Popularity
ChatGPT’s usage varies significantly by region, with the United States making up about 12% of ChatGPT’s traffic, according to Similarweb. In May 2024, the US accounted for the highest traffic, representing a significant portion of the total visits to ChatGPT.
Users from the US spent an average of 5 minutes and 58 seconds per visit, viewing approximately 3.48 pages each time. However, the US is also the region with the sharpest dropoff in visits, decreasing visits by 70% in May 2024.
India is the second-largest source of traffic, with users spending about 7 minutes and 46 seconds per visit and viewing around 3.44 pages per session. Despite a traffic decline of 65.49% in May, India remains a critical user base for ChatGPT.
Japan ranks third and has the longest average duration of page visits, at almost 9 minutes per session. It saw a significantly lower drop in use than India or the US, with visits dropping by only 60%.
Indonesia and Brazil are the next two top countries using ChatGPT. Indonesian users visit the most pages of the five countries, averaging 4.67 pages per visit. That shows high engagement, which is also reflected by their average visit duration of 8 minutes and 31 seconds. On the other hand, Brazilian users seem less interested in the site, with a bounce rate above 52% (the other countries’ bounce rates are 35% or below).
These regional differences highlight the diverse global appeal and usage patterns of ChatGPT, with varying levels of engagement and changes in traffic shares across different countries.
ChatGPT Economic and Financial Statistics
OpenAI’s ChatGPT has demonstrated substantial economic success since its debut. As of December 2024, ChatGPT generated an impressive $2 billion in revenue. This significant financial achievement has bolstered OpenAI’s valuation to $86 billion, highlighting the considerable market impact and investor confidence in the company’s AI.
Impact on the Job Market
ChatGPT’s integration into various sectors has notable implications for the job market. It has been adopted by over 92% of Fortune 500 companies, leading to faster task completion and enhanced productivity.
But that’s not to say there are no concerns with ChatGPT. One study shows that almost a third of current jobs could be fully impacted by the tool, with only 30.7% not likely to be affected by it at all.
Industry-Specific Impacts
ChatGPT’s influence extends across almost every industry. Here are a few examples:

However, trust levels vary by subject matter: While people find ChatGPT useful for learning and entertainment, they are skeptical about its reliability on sensitive topics like elections. Only 2% of Americans trust ChatGPT for election information, with 38% expressing little to no trust, reflecting broader concerns about misinformation and bias in AI tools.
