Here is a brief taste of Melissa’s vibe:
WHAT IS USUALLY PLAYING IN YOUR HEADPHONES?
Here’s a sampling of artists that are on regular rotation: Tristan Prettyman, Ed Sheeran, Bob Marley, Vance Joy, The Lumineers, The Weeknd, Marvin Gaye, Reel Big Fish, Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, The Weepies, Isbells, Beastie Boys, Vampire Weekend, Debussy, and Chopin. (Yes, I’m serious about those last two. Classical music has some real bangers.)
WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I‘ve always been artistic so I wanted to be a ballerina or a writer—and I’ve done both!
Although I ultimately decided I didn’t want to pursue a formal dance career, I studied classical ballet for 28 years and performed countless times.
My passion for words has been the north star of my career. I started writing poetry and short stories in elementary school and attempted my first novel in high school (alas, it was a failed attempt). I kicked off my content marketing career as a full-time copywriter before working my way up through editing, strategist, and leadership roles. I’m lucky to be able to do what I love for a living.
WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING, WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
I’m happiest when I’m outdoors on a sunny day: either hiking through the woods with my dog or enjoying a glass of wine and a charcuterie board in a local vineyard.
WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT?
I have a highly visual memory so I tend to remember details that others may forget, such as the exact shirt someone was wearing or an object that was placed on a coffee table. When I took tests in school, I “saw” the answer in my head by visualizing the page on which I’d read the words.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES?
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” ― Mary Oliver
